STEP 6
As soon as the work surface
liquifies, bring the welding rod
into the puddle and apply the
flame to the rod. Use the shadow
of the rod to protect the work
from excess heat. Move quickly
to the left to develop the bead.
Keep the torch very close to the
work. Use torch motion only if
necessary. After an inch, stop
to let the work cool. This will
prevent total collapse of the
work. Total puddlification is
unrecoverable.

After the piece cools, remove
the flux with hot water and a
stiff brush. Examine your work.
If you have done a skilled job,
the bead will have ripples
similar to a good steel weld
bead.
